Writing the fragments............

Every occasion is an opportunity to write. Every opportunity to write is a fragment in a potential character's life. When we miss the chance to write our lives we aren't taking the time to be who we really are. If we are committed to being the person we are truly meant to be then even when we are busy we can find the time to write.

Writing even in fragments is better than not writing at all. A fragment may be what it was like to smell the flowers at the florist, what the sand felt like under our feet at the beach, what it felt like to white knuckle Valentine's Day or what it felt like to have someone say they would marry you and then never really intend to do so. These fragments are small opportunities for writer's to develop a character's life.

Each occasion has a feeling attached and we express our feelings in our writing. The potential of a fragment attached to a feeling is endless. From the fragment and the feeling comes a message, a hope, a desire and sometimes even a redo in the life our character lives.

When we attended to the details of our lives that are barely worthwhile to perform then we are writing the fragments of who we are. The action of writing who I am is a small opportunity to cherish moments that are solely mine, yet share what goes on inside of me that separates me from others.

When writing I have the opportunity to write all the beautiful moments of my life whether or not they are actually beautiful at the time I write them. Music, stories, friendships all change as my daily experience shifts between fragments and occasions. The shift between fragments and occasions is what bonds the writer and the reader to the character and the story. With each new character is a new origin, a new tradition and a new history.

If I minimize the occasions in my life then I am not caring about my inner writing self. As I develop the writing habit I want to write every opportunity like it was a marvelous occasion. I want to celebrate with the reader the mutual appreciation for setting aside time to reflect on what experiences bring us together.

I must never forget that just as I write by setting a special moment aside my reader creates similar occasions……….
